Shipley actor Bryan Mosley will be laid to rest at a quiet family funeral, it was revealed today.

But a special memorial service is also being arranged so fellow stars from Coronation Street can say their farewells to Mr Mosley, who collapsed and died in Shipley on Tuesday. He had suffered heart trouble for some time.

The family of the 67-year-old actor - known to millions as Alf Roberts, the shopkeeper turned Mayor of Weatherfield - have requested that the funeral, at St Walburga's RC Church on Tuesday at 9.30am, remain a low-key affair.

Mr Mosley, a committed Christian, was a regular worshipper at the church in Kirkgate, Shipley.

A Granada spokesman said a memorial service would be staged later although no date or venue had yet been fixed.

He said it was possible Granada and Street representatives would be at the funeral but added: "We've been told it will be a quiet, family affair.

"It's expected to be a very small service for family and very close friends - it certainly won't be a who's who from Granada.''

Last night's episode of Coronation Street ended with a simple dedication to Mr Mosley, who had been appearing in the soap for almost 38 years.
