Snooker: Wayne Cooper won one deciding frame and lost one in the English Team Championships at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds.

T&A champion Craig Butler drew 1-1 in his first match against David Blakey from the Ray Edmonds Snooker Centre A (Grimsby).

Kevin Firth went down 2-0 to Ray's son Alan, but Cooper retrieved matters by beating Craig Edwards 2-0.

The 20-year-old from West Bowling then went out and defeated Alan Edmonds in the decider.

In the second round, the Odsal Top club were up against Sheffield No 2, and all three matches were drawn - Butler against David Dalton, Firth against Peter Bardsley, and Cooper against Wayne Green-wood.

The Clubhouse were unlucky in that Dalton fluked the first frame on the final black. Cooper lost the decider to Greenwood.

Bradford - the city's other representatives - lost 4-2 to the Ray Edmonds B team in the first round.

Howard Mawson drew 1-1 with Gary Challis, and Sajid Khan shared frames with Jamie Green, but Martin Unsworth lost 2-0 to Graham Challis.

Butler has his fourth successive weekend of high-class action on Sunday when he competes in the last 32 of the Strachan English Open Championships at The Club-house In Cue Gardens (11am).

He plays England junior international Mark Selby (Leicester), with the winner to face either John Burns (Dovecot) or Scunthorpe professional Matthew Couch. All matches are the best-of-seven frames.

Cooper had to come from 2-1 down to defeat Unsworth 4-2 in the third round of the Bradford Championships.
