Courageous toddler George Muff could be on his way to Disneyland after a year- long battle with cancer.

Friends of the two-year-old, who had a kidney removed as a result of his illness, have set up an appeal to raise money to send him and his family on a holiday abroad.

And as part of the George Muff Appeal a Mad March Ball will be held on March 20 at Bradford's Stakis Hotel.

Organiser Bev Holmes said: "We've almost sold all the tickets so that's not a problem but we really need prizes for the raffles.

"If anyone would like to donate a prize or just make a donation towards the appeal we would be very grateful. We're going to give any money left over to the Candlelighters charity which pays for research into fighting children's cancer."

George was first diagnosed with a Wilms tumour on January 8, 1998, and after having his left kidney removed in March the same year started successful chemotherapy treatment at St James's Hospital in Leeds.

His mum Maxine, 32, and dad Dave, 37, of Acre Avenue, Eccleshill, had to give up their jobs to care for him and his elder brother Jack.

Maxine, who was Bradford Industrial Museum's marketing officer before George's illness, said: "We couldn't go away on holiday last year because George was just too ill to risk it. Now we're just trying to get him back to normal after the treatment and hopefully we can go away in September or October. We're so grateful for the appeal.''
