Golf professional David Delaney told a jury how he became the victim of a road rage attack after overtaking a fellow motorist.

Mr Delaney said he was travelling home to Shipley on Green Lane when a Nissan Patrol in front of him slowed and indicated to turn left.

But as he went to overtake it the Nissan began indicating right, he told Bradford Crown Court

"There was nothing else I could do but carry on,'' he said. "I looked in my mirror and saw him flash his lights at me.''

Prosecutor Miss Caroline Wigin alleged that following the incident the Nissan driver 42-year-old Edward Keery-Fisher pursued Mr Delaney's Ford Orion and deliberately rammed his vehicle into the back of it in nearby Gorse Avenue.

Mr Delaney, now assistant professional at Shay Grange Golf Centre in Long Lane, Bradford, said his car was shunted on to the pavement.

He went to check the damage, but retreated when Keery-Fisher came at him shouting and swearing.

Mr Delaney said Keery-Fisher then punched and kneed him in the head kicked him after he fell to the floor.

"Somehow I managed to scramble my way to the pavement where he carried on kicking me,'' he said.

Mr Delaney denied hitting Keery-Fisher at any stage. He claimed as Keery-Fisher left he deliberately drove at him, forcing him to leap over a hedge to avoid being run down.

Mr Delaney suffered bruises and grazes to his face and arms and also had problems with his back as a result of the attack.

Keery-Fisher, of Green Lane, Shipley, has pleaded not guilty to causing criminal damage to the Ford Orion, common assault and dangerous driving.

The trial continues.
