A Home Office minister will visit Bradford to look at crime reduction schemes in the district.

Charles Clarke - who visited the area as a minister in the Department for Education during Bradford's education shake-up - will meet youngsters in Girlington and take part in a question and answer session with groups involved in crime prevention.

He will visit the Bradford Police Boys' Club on Walker Drive on Wednesday to talk to youngsters there.

He is also set to hold a meeting with Bradford Crime and Disorder Partnership - a three-year strategy involving a wide variety of organisations looking at key action areas such as drug-related crime, burglary reduction and fear of crime.

Community representatives who had input into the crime reduction strategy have been invited to meet the minister.

Sharmila Gandhi, of Bradford's Crime and Disorder Partnership, said Mr Clarke's visit gave a high profile to the city's schemes to cut crime.

"Mr Clarke will spend three hours in Bradford meeting young people and so many different people working together tackling crime and disorder.

"We will show him how we are doing and what are our concerns."

Mr Clarke's special responsibilities include crime reduction, policing policy, criminal justice policy and organised crime.
