Keighley Bowling Club's A team have swept to victory in the Skipton League's first division yet again.

They clinched their 17th title in 18 years by crushing Cononley A 11-1 in their final game and leaving runners-up Colne Cricket Club A some way behind.

Next season should provide some interesting matches as they will be joined in the top flight by their B team, who finished runners-up in Division Two behind Foulridge.

Cross Hills A and B teams also secured promotion from Division Three and Four. Both teams secured second place behind Devon B and C teams.

The Floodlit League starts with three divisions on September 8, following the preliminary rounds of the Norman Johnson floodlit competition the previous evening. The popular event, held in memory of one of the league's personalities, reaches its conclusion on September 14.

Cross Roads, long time leaders of the Valley League, annihilated Whinfield, themselves no slouches, by over 100 points in the 8-a-side league.

Cross Roads also head for the Brotherton Cup finals held in the Heavy Woollen area on Sunday, when they join 15 other finalists in what should be a great day's play. they begin their campaign against Salts A at Firth Park, Heckmondwike, at 10am. The final is to be held at Thornhill C & BC later in the day. Success was lead to the Inter-County team finals in West Yorkshire on October 3.

Local rounds of th EF Cockcroft Handicap are to be held in Skipton on Saturday with winners going to the finals on September 19.

Keighley Bowling Club area again holding their Vets Invitation Pairs on Wednesday, September 8, starting at 9.30am. A full house is expected and everyone is welcome.

Silsden bowler, David Scott did exceptionally well to reach the final of the Leeds Classic, held at Burley Park.

The ex-County player returned to form, but just failed in his last bid, losing 18-21 to team mate, friend and doubles partner, Graham Hickey, of Elland. No doubt both went home happy with the big cash prize.
