A Steeton couple will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary on Monday. Percy and Mildred Richards tied the knot at Steeton's Wesleyan Hall on August 30, 1924. Percy, 99, and Mildred, 96, met in Steeton while listening to a Haworth band concert.

They went on to get married when Percy was 24 and Mildred was 21.

Haworth man Percy was a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps Cadets at Hastings in 1917 and served as a Sergeant in the RAF in World War One. He was in the home guard in the Second World War.

He worked as a tax inspector in various parts of the country including Keighley until he retired when he was 61.

Percy, who will be 100 in November, was driving until he was 93. Mildred passed her driving test when she was 63 and drove for ten years.

The couple - who had lived in Steeton since 1939 - moved into the Beanlands Nursing Home at Glusburn five years ago. The two of them will be celebrating their platinum wedding anniversary with friends.

During their married life they have travelled extensively throughout Europe.

Mildred - a Steeton woman - says: "We've had a happy life together and we've travelled a lot."
