Keighley police and local firms have teamed up to keep homes safe - by educating burglars.

Four local security companies, Keybury Security, Dcor Grille, CH Woods Security and Twill Fencing Systems, have all donated £500 each to produce 5,000 anti-burglary packs.

They will go to the victims of crime and also to convicted burglars on release, to help them re-adjust and stop them re-offending.

The packs contain Home Office literature on home and business security, information on bogus officials, property marking and general crime prevention advice.

PC Adrian Foyston, Keighley's crime prevention officer, says: "Statistics show that having been burgled, you are four times more likely to be targeted again unless positive action to improve security is taken. These packs are vital in giving victims essential advice so they can take steps to protect themselves."

Andrew Baldwin, of Bradford firm CH Woods Security, says: "I think it is a very good police initiative."

He adds that in his experience home owners will often only secure their homes after a burglary.

Superintendent Derek Bonnard, divisional commander for the Keighley area, thanked the local sponsors along with PC Foyston on Wednesday.

Supt Bonnard says: "Working in partnership increases the range of options available to police and helps give burglary reduction new momentum."
