A Millennium project to pave an Addingham street is still on track for completion next year with a third of the cash already raised.

Addingham Civic Society chairman Don Barrett says they will need almost £9,000 to complete the George Street project by next summer.

He said: "This is a lot of money but we are sure it is achievable and our target is to get it done before next summer.

"We have already got over a third of the total and are hoping to hear good news soon from the Gala Committee and the Parish Council as well as the Lottery Awards for All Scheme."

George Street, which is in the village conservation area and runs behind the Post Office on Main Street, is used by many villagers. The paving project will seek to improve its appearance.

The Civic Society has organised a coffee morning on Saturday, September 11 to raise more funds.

Some of the other fundraising ideas discussed include sponsored paving slabs and sets, a barn dance and a duck race. Anyone with any ideas should contact the Civic Society vice-chairman Jane Scott on 01943 830480.

Addingham's other Millennium project, a wall hanging, has progressed to sewing stage at workshops in the Old School House, on Main Street.

The workshops take place on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm.

Anyone willing to help or wants to find out more about the project should go along to one of the workshops or call Ken Willson on 01943 830376.
