Forty thousand sun-kissed revellers accepted an invitation to party in the park and were greeted by glorious sunshine and soaring temperatures.

Among the bands performing at the two-day extravaganza in Bingley's Myrtle Park were 1970s tribute bands ABBA Gold and bill toppers BC Sweet who belted out rocking 70s hits such as Blockbuster and Ballroom Blitz to a record attendance of 30,000 on Saturday.

And 10,000 youngsters got what they wanted on Sunday when the park played host to teen heartthrobs 21st Century Girls, Shelley Nelson and Tina Cousins. The crowd got so hot and bothered when boy band Damage took the stage that firefighters armed with hoses had to give the front rows a hosing down.

Students Rachel Mansfield, 20, and Melanie Williams, 20, of Keighley, both took the chance to soak up the sun on Sunday before heading back to university next week.

Rachel said: "It's been really cool. The 21st Century Girls were really good. It's been brilliant and I've really enjoyed myself."

Meanwhile a record crowd of over 6,000 made this year's Keighley show the most successful ever.

People thronged the show ground at Marley Fields, Keighley, on Saturday making the most of one of the hottest days of the year.

Featuring at the show for the first time was a rare breeds competition as well as the usual horse, cattle and sheep, goats, pigeons, pets and even ferret categories.

The show also offered flower and handicraft displays and a bonny baby competition.

Also at the show was Keighley-born weatherman Paul Hudson who started a charity jail break from a "prison" at the show ground built by Keighley Rotarians.

Show secretary Inez Spencer said she was delighted by the turnout.

She said: "It was a wonderful day. People were coming in at 9am and staying all day long and everyone one was saying how much they were enjoying it."
