Dentist Camillus Adjei has always done his best to explain in detail to patients how teeth could be repaired.

Over the years he has used the latest technology to help private patients understand what the end result of cosmetic dentistry would be before they decided to go ahead with it.

Years ago he would sketch the proposals on paper then used slides which were projected on the wall. But with the emergence of new technology he now uses computer imaging to show before and after smiles.

Mr Adjei, who runs a surgery in Marlborough Road, Bradford, with his son, Marcus, takes pictures of people's teeth as they are and sets up another using computer imaging techniques to show what their mouth could look like after the work has been carried out.

He can also use the computer equipment to run slow-moving video which shows how the changes take place when re-aligning teeth.

Mr Adjei, who once also ran a surgery in Birkenshaw, qualified in 1963 and worked in a surgery in Idle Road three years later then moved to the current premises.

He started cosmetic imaging 12 years ago and nine months ago developed a website to promote it. Mr Adjei stressed he was not trying to pinch other dentist's patients by offering the cosmetic imaging service.

He accesses the Internet using Bradford firm Legend whose sales director Frank Fallows has become one of Mr Adjei's patients.

"I do the computer imaging but the patient can have their treatment carried out anywhere," he added.

In fact, Mr Adjei is in the process of producing a free database on his website for dentists in the Bradford and Leeds area.

"I will be writing to all the dentists in the two areas offering them a free place on the website. It also includes specialist areas so people can find out more about particular problems and treatments."

In time local firms will be invited to advertise on the website to promote their goods.

The website shows pictures of how smiles can be improved by cosmetic dentistry using computer imaging and gives costs and allows people to e-mail Mr Adjei for further information.

"I prefer to spend time with people discussing their needs and building up a trust with them rather than talk about treatment in the dentist's chair," he added.

Mr Adjei's website is on www.beautifulteeth.co.uk
