David Wetherall believes Bradford City's last gasp equaliser against Tottenham will prove invaluable for the coming few weeks.

The Bantams defender created the opening for Stuart McCall's late equaliser with a typically powerful header from a Peter Beagrie corner.

Spurs had been a goal ahead thanks to Chris Perry's opener and McCall's goal brought City's run of three successive defeats to an end.

Wetherall said: "It was vitally important for us because a draw was the least we deserved out of the game. I know they had a lot of possession and a lot of corners but we got our heads to them and threw ourselves in front of the ball when we needed to.

"If it had gone to four defeats on the trot and after having deserved something, a defeat could have deflated us.

"It is important psychologically to get off four points - we've been on it for too long. I had never played with Andy O'Brien before but I thought we did well together.

"I had three headers in the last five minutes from our corners. The first one was cleared off the line, the second cleared the stand and the third saw Macca get on the end of it."

McCall's injury-time equaliser was not enough to lift City out of the bottom three but Jewell declared himself happy with a point

Jewell said: "We kept going to the end and it paid off. I told all the players yesterday that if they had the opportunity to shoot then they must take it. Funnily enough, with Stuart I told him if he had the chance to shoot then he must pass!

"In the first half, we came under too much pressure early on. In certain games, you can say 'That side never got out of their own half'. Well, for the first ten minutes we couldn't get out of our own box!

"But we weathered the storm and created some good chances in the first half."

Tottenham boss George Graham said: "In our last two games against Bradford and Leeds we have attacked very well. Their goalkeeper was the man of the match - just as Nigel Martyn was last week."
