Paul Jewell today welcomed Bradford City's home tie against Barnsley in the Worthington Cup third round next month.

The draw, made live on Sky Television yesterday afternoon, paired City with the First Divi-sion outfit in a match which is set to be played on Tuesday, October 12.

The City manager said: "It is a home draw, and that is what everyone wants in the Cup. It gives us a real chance of progressing.

"Their manager Dave Bassett has had the Indian sign over us in recent years with Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United, so it is about time we beat one of his teams. He is a smashing manager and highly respected in the game.

"I am looking forward to the match - it is a Yorkshire derby and there should be a good atmosphere."

City gained a double over Barnsley in the First Division last season - important victories that played a big part in their promotion triumph.

They beat them 2-1 at Valley Parade when Gordon Watson came on as substitute with six minutes to go when City were trailing 1-0 and he scored two goals in a dramatic finale.

Watson then came on as substitute in the return match at Oakwell in March and scored the winner in a 1-0 victory.

The striker left City during the summer, and Jewell quipped: "Maybe we will have to sign him on loan for the Cup match!"

The last time the clubs met was on Saturday, July 31 when Barnsley beat City 3-1 in a pre-season friendly at Valley Parade, but that result will have no bearing on the Cup match.

Huddersfield have a tough draw at Chelsea, but Leeds United will fancy their chances against First Division Blackburn Rovers, who were relegated from the Premier-ship last season.

The draw for the third round is a new-look affair, with the 16 ties divided into two groups of eight so that clubs can see their way through to the Wembley final.

It has been described as like the Wimbledon Tennis Champion-ship draw without the seedings.

City are in the same half as Huddersfield, and their tie was the second to be drawn.

It means that if City beat Barnsley, they will play the winners of the first pairing - Tranmere v Oxford - in the fourth round. Leeds are in the other half of the draw, along with Cup favourites Liverpool.
