Bradford will stage their first schoolboy international for more than eight years when England play Scotland in an under-18 match at Valley Parade on Friday, February 18. The teams will play for the Centenary Shield.

It is a big venture for the Bradford Schools FA, who are hoping for good support, not only from the local footballing public but from schools across the North of England.

The last time a schoolboy international was staged at Valley Parade was in June, 1991 when England met West Germany in an under-15 match.

Then, following a vigorous and imaginative ticket-selling campaign, the match attracted a crowd of just under 7,000.

Tim Leigh, chairman of the organising committee, said: "There are only two home internationals away from Wembley this season - one at Torquay against Austria and this one at Bradford.

"The fact that it is in the north will encourage some Scottish support.

"There is always a big push from local schools FAs to stage internationals.

"We have got an international back in Bradford because we did so well when we staged the last one in 1991, and there was a big crowd of 15,000 for the England Under-21 international against Denmark in October."
