A large number of Harriers, too many to mention, concluded their year's racing by competing in the festive Chevin Chase, a seven-mile race over mixed terrain. One or two others chose to delay a return to running until the following day at the John Holly 10k from Ripon Cricket Club.

Rachael and Kevin Gooch were observers on New Year Day, fitting in an extra training session in search of empty champagne bottles left on Ilkley Moor during their Millennium celebrations which took in the panorama at midnight of the many firework displays across the skyline.

The first result received in the New Year came from Andrew Wade, completing the Leyland Millennium Half Marathon in 77.47, an excellent time and a PB by well over a minute.

Others are back in training and should be able to shake off the cobwebs with a short burst in the Harrogate Ringway Relay on Sunday. On the same day a team of ladies will compete in the Sports Direct Cross-Country at Temple Newsam. Members keen to take part in these events should contact Ken Souyave (01943 862096) to see if last minute opportunities exist to race.

The following weekend sees the last of the West Yorkshire Cross-Country races on Saturday, January 15.

Membership of the club has developed well in recent months and the club is commencing a training session on Thursday (from January 6) as well as the usual Tuesday session. New and existing members are welcome on either or both nights, meeting at 7.00pm at Ben Rhydding Sports Club. Individuals of all ability are welcome.
