Vandals have hit the fundraising efforts of Keighley Scout Band.

Hundreds of pounds worth of damage was caused to the band's transport as members played Christmas carols in a town centre pub.

Four vehicles parked in Lawkholme Lane were attacked while youngsters entertained customers at the Cavendish Hotel.

Now a slice of the £800-plus raised through the band's Christmas campaign may have to be used to help cover repair costs.

Band master Simon Pullen said: "It's sickening. We had enjoyed an excellent run-up to Christmas, playing at many venues, and had raised a considerable sum. That money should be going towards buying uniforms for our young members, but will now probably be off-setting insurance excess payments.

"It was very disheartening and spoiled what otherwise was a fantastic few weeks."

The band - whose members are aged between eight and 25 - was so upset by the incident it cancelled other planned town-centre engagements that evening.

Sponsorship is being sought, and new members are welcome. Rehearsals are held every Monday at Cross Roads Methodist Church.
