Young musicians from Pudsey and Otley hope to take their first step to rock 'n' roll stardom next week.

Their bands Juxtaposition and One Minute Warning have qualified for the Leeds area final of the national Bright Young Things competition.

Both came through their heats of the national event, which is a showcase for musicians aged 21 or under. Otley-based Juxtaposition, who formed in May last year and specialise in indie rock, feature William Saunders, Oliver Mountain, James Mallinson and Lee Mallinson.

They won their heat at the Duchess of York in Leeds to secure their place in the final, which will take place at the same venue on Monday. Juxtaposition performed at a leavers' concert last year at Prince Henry's Grammar School in Otley. Lee and William used to be pupils there and are now at music college while James is still a pupil there and former Guiseley School pupil Oliver is about to leave music college.

Pudsey-based rock, pop, metal and punk fusion group One Minute Warning have also made it to the final, where they will be up against Downfall, Insense and The Rockabeats.

One Minute Warning have been together for more than a year ago and have headlined concerts at the Duchess and Cockpit in Leeds. Their line-up includes Daniel Seviour, Mathew Hill, Daniel Wigglesworth, Paul Percival and Davina Dyson.

The winners of Monday's Leeds area final will go on to compete in the national final at the Town and Country Club in Leeds in March and win two free days of studio recording time.

lTickets for the Leeds area final are £2 on the door. The music starts at 7.30pm.
