Bradford City are calling on fans to help them draw up plans to ease traffic congestion on matchdays.

Among ideas which the club are putting forward are car sharing, a park and ride scheme or a rail halt near the ground.

The Bantams are about to embark on building work which will add 7,000 to the Valley Parade capacity when a second tier is added to the Sunwin Stand.

City have to draw up a Green Transport Plan under the Section 106 Agreement which was one of the condition of the planning permission granted by the Council.

Managing director Shaun Harvey says the questionnaire, which was mailed out to fans with season ticket renewal forms today, is an integral part of that plan.

He said: "This really is a vital document for the club and I would ask as many fans as possible to fill the questionnaire in.

"When we draw up our green transport plan, it must be realistic because certain targets will have to be met under law. If we fail to do that, penalties can be incurred

"We could draw up a plan today but we need to know what the existing habits of supporters are. And what they would like to be done in the future.

"For instance, there is no point having 25 buses running if people don't feel they run from the right place. We understand that there are some people who must travel by car to the ground. However the ground's situation close to Manningham Lane means that a lot of public transport passes within yards of Valley Parade.

"This questionnaire will tell us how many people arrive at the ground by train, bus or car. Then we will have a much clearer picture as to what, if anything, can be done."

The questionnaire poses a wide range of questions with fans asked if they would make use of guaranteed parking if they agreed to car sharing.

A possible park and ride schemes and a rail halt on the Forster Square to Skipton line are options to be considered.

City also want to know how many buses fans use to get to Valley Parade at the moment and whether more direct services would encourage them to leave the car at home.

Harvey said: "We would ask people to return the questionnaires as soon as possible so we can process the data and start to draw up a realistic Green Transport Plan.

"We hope as many fans as possible will help us in this respect and we urge them not to wait until renewing season tickets to return them.

"As an incentive we will put all the completed questionnaires into a prize draw providing they are returned before February 29."
