A Millennium bash which was booked 22 years before the event has raised £2,281 for charity.

The New Year's Eve party at Ian Clough Hall, Baildon, was booked by 71-year-old resident John Metcalfe in 1978.

The party plans hit trouble last year when the band which had been booked for the night split up.

But an appeal in the T&A saved the day and all proceeds from the event have been given to Bradford's War on Cancer.

About 150 people attended the party which included a band, disco and a pie and peas supper.

Former driving instructor Mr Metcalfe said: "I just booked the hall one night almost 23 years ago.

"I don't know why I did it. I had even forgotten about it until someone from the hall contacted me.

"It was a really good night though, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it."

Jackie Metcalfe, John's daughter-in-law, also raised money for the cause by charging folk to have a peek at her pierced belly button.

Andrea Bacon, the charity's fundraiser, said: "They are a fantastic bunch of people who worked so hard on the event.

"The best thing about it is that everybody had such a wonderful time.

"But as a charity we are overjoyed that John put so much time and effort into raising the money for us."

The money will be put towards funding Ward 15 at Bradford Royal Infirmary and the charity's Silver Jubilee Appeal to extend research laboratories at Bradford University.
