Ilkley Golf Club

foursomes

MARCH seems to be the month of foursomes for the ladies of Ilkley Golf Club. After the Coronation Foursomes came the County Foursomes, played in cool but fine spring weather.

The winners with 741/2 were Pam Blackburn and Daphne Hawkins. Second place went to Sally Ognall and Liz Webster 75, whilst two couples finished on a score of 77 with Jane Cooper, on her first outing this year, and Shirley Metcalfe taking third position from Jackie Foster and Jill Wilson on the countback.

Other qualifiers for the next round on July 6 at West Bradford Golf Club were Joyce Bennett and Jill Parfitt, Marjorie Leather and Margaret Pack, and new member Gail Austin and Maureen Schofield.

Improving weather conditions on March 28 may have favoured the later starters playing in the YLCGA Centenary Competition qualifying round. Last out but again first on the result board with a score of 29 points was Pam Blackburn, this time partnered by Wendy Pillinger, and they will go forward to the next round of this knockout competition.

Sally Ognall, once again in second place, and playing with Dottie Cartwright, were one points behind the winners, and with two couples on 27, Judy Palmer and Maureen Schofield, just pipped Daphne Hawkins and Julie Ormondroyd for the third spot.
