Britain's biggest cinema operator is on the hunt for its own "Barry Norman" to work at its £5 million new multiplex in Thornbury.

Odeon Cinemas has created the post of 'Film Fanatic' and is currently recruiting for the job.

The resident Film Fanatic will be responsible for giving customers advice and recommendations on the latest films on show.

The job description for the new "Barry" will include a passion for cinemas and all round knowledge about films.

An Odeon spokesman said: "He will stand in the foyer and will be able to answer general questions on the cinema's film schedules to specific questions on actors, and film genres.

"Customers will also get details of the films they are about to see."

The 13-screen state of the art cinema will be the biggest Odeon in the country, providing more than 3,100 seats.

It is the main part of a multi-million pound leisure centre being built in Dick Lane.

The site developer, JJ Gallagher, has also signed up Cine-UK for a 16-screen cinema on Bradford's Vicar Lane car park, where it plans to build another major leisure centre.

The Thornbury Odeon will have access for disabled people, a caf bar, digital sound and a computerised booking system.

It will have a Saturday and Sunday children's film club with discount tickets for parents and youngsters.

There will be special late night screenings of cult films for students and a senior screen for older people.

Clive Bailie, manager of the cinema which will open in July, said: "This is great news for cinema-goers in both Bradford and Leeds. We've created the post of 'Film Fanatic' to make people feel passionate about the cinema."

The opening of the new Odeon at Thornbury will mean the closure around the same time of the city centre Odeon.
