Guiseley Rangers.......... 38

Guiseley Rangers played their final league fixture of the season last Saturday at Rochdale against a very committed Littleborough side.

Although already promoted to the Premier Division, Rangers wanted to leave Division One on a high, and the thirteen players available for this game did not let the Club down.

On a very warm afternoon, they started brightly, applying all the early pressure, and going close to scoring on a number of occasions. Eventually Rangers' ful- back, Stuart Patchett, opened the scoring with a weaving run that took him behind the posts. Littleborough hit back with an equalising try on 20 minutes, but Rangers replied with tries from stand- off Andy Hinchliffe and loose forward Alex White.

Stuart Kay converted one of the tries, and Rangers led by 14 - 4 at half time.

Rangers were expected to tire in the second half, but a great build up saw centre Jon Beanland increase their lead. The home team came back into the game with two tries, but Rangers hit back when a well timed Stephen Barber pass put Mike Smith under the posts and Jon Beanland converted.

A Jon Beanland break then put centre Stuart Kay clear to score, and the game was wrapped up in the last ten minutes when Alex White powered over for his second try.

The Rangers' small squad has worked wonders this season, and immense credit and praise is due to player/coach Tony Smith who, at times, has worked miracles .

The Club now look forward to Pennine Premier Division Rugby League next season, and are hoping to form a senior second team to play on Saturdays.

Any interested players can register now by contacting Club Secretary David Clayton on 01943 876589 or mobile 07074 183659.

Last Saturday evening, Guiseley Rangers held their annual Senior's Presentation Dinner at the Parkway Hotel, Bramhope.

A large gathering heard Chairman Tom Rawlinson welcome everybody, with a special mention to the Club Sponsors who were present, thanking them for their continued support.

Bouquets of flowers were presented to the ladies who work tirelessly behind the scenes.

Special gifts were also presented to coach Tony Smith, and physios Tracey Clayton and Frank Broadhead. All the players received individual trophies.

Peter Smith was rewarded as the most improved player, and Stephen Barber and Darren Clayton received top training attendance awards. Andy Hinchliffe was announced as the players' Player-of-the-Year, and the Club Player of the Year honour went to Craig McLoughlin, who was presented with his award by sponsor John Walker, of Chevin Tree Surgeons.

Secretary David Clayton closed the formal proceedings by thanking everyone, on and off the field, who had contributed to a very successful season.
