POLICE have charged a 62-year-old Leeds man with murder following the death of an Otley man.

John Walker, 56, of Weston Park View, and an un-named woman at the same address, were discovered by police with stab wounds on Sunday night. Mr Walker was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he later died.

The 61-year-old woman was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where she received

treatment for an arm wound before being released.

The arrested man was appearing in court as the Wharfedale Observer went to press.

Police were called to the house at 8.30pm on Sunday.

Neighbour Harold Bowman, 66, of Weston Drive, said: "I was in the garden at the time and heard some commotion. I heard a noise at about 8.15pm to 8.30pm. There were mostly kids about and apparently two of them had seen it happen.

"The ambulance came and then three police cars, then they brought a chap out.

"The police were there all night and the next day."

Another resident said: "I didn't know them very well because they had only been there for a few months, but she always gave you the time of day.

"It really does affect you when something like this happens. You see it on the news or in the movies, but it's a real shock when it happens in your community."
