A Bradford City shirt signed by the triumphant squad which beat Liverpool to stay in the Premiership, is to be raffled to help a Keighley school maintain its sports college status.

The shirt will be among the prizes on offer at a special dinner, held at the Three Sisters Hotel in Haworth, in aid of Oakbank School, Keighley, on Wednesday.

The school has been working to raise money to ensure it keeps its status as a sports college.

Head teacher, John Roberts, said: "We wrote to City asking if they could support us by donating something for the raffle. We were delighted when they presented the signed shirt."

Diners will be urged to make offers and people not attending the meal can make telephone bids.

He said the school had received a good response from people making pledges in kind to reach the money target, but they also needed cash donations. "We need cash so that we can build the new astroturf facility. The job has already gone out to tender," he added.

Tickets for the sports dinner are £20 a head. Special guests include former Halifax Rugby League and Leeds Rugby League star, John Bentley and comedian, Farrell Butler.

Among the items for sale will be signed Manchester United and Leeds United footballs and shirts from local rugby clubs.

Oakbank hit the headlines when financial irregularities were uncovered in the way it had bid for sports college status. There was no question of dishonesty. After an investigation, the school was told it could maintain its status so long as it raised another £75,000.

Anyone wanting to make a telephone bid for the City shirt should call 01535 644101 and speak to Mark Lawn.
