ON a glorious Sunday the Craven Cricket League's Wynn Cup got underway and there were no surprises in the games.

Holders Pendle Forest travelled to Thornton and encountered a few problems in progressing into the next round. Thornton batted first and posted 150, with Andrew Townsend taking 5-32.

In reply the Pendle side cantered to a crushing eight wicket victory. Ajmal Choudry, promoted from the second team, scoring 86.

Bradley had the unenviable task of travelling to Oakworth and their fears seemed to be well founded as they collapsed to 26-6 in the 16th over.

However, a battling 51 from A Smithson gave them a total of 96 to defend. Graham Rankin had figures of 4-3 from 8 overs and Mick Scarborough 3-12 from seven.

Oakworth were rattled as they lost three wickets in reaching seven at the end of the second over. Skipper Scarborough came to their rescue with 58no, which led them to a five wicket win.

Embsay restricted Haworth WE to 126. Opener A Stoddart scored 39 as Scott Robinson took 6-38 and Jonathan Coward 3-24. The Shires Lane side lost a couple of early wickets before Duncan Bullough, who finished with 41no, and Alan Pickles, 37, steadied the ship to set up a comfortable six wicket win.

Skipton CI were at Sutton and made 185-7 in their overs, with Ian Burke top scoring with 32 as Andy Elrick took 4-48. The homesters were never really in touch with the required rate and closed on 158-9, P Williams scored a valiant 60no and John Stuttard taking 4-55.

Cowling triumphed by 53 runs at Chatburn. Batting first, the South Craveners notched up 230-4 in their overs, skipper Steve Mitchell making a fine 88no. Chatburn put up a spirited reply to finish on 177-6, of which Richard Shovelton made 72no.

Over at Victory Park Barnoldswick III were restricted to 127-8 by Long Lee in their 45 overs. N Johnson 27 being the highest scorer as John Tetley finished with 5-30 off 13 overs. The Keighley side then strolled to a nine wicket victory, with Paul Wilkinson scoring 70no and Jan Haider 31no.

Jimmy Nelson's were dismissed for 97 at Haworth despite the efforts of Tony Stafford who made 48. Anthony Godden took 6-11 and B Khan 3-27. Adam Balderstone with 53no led the Bronte side to an easy 8 wicket win.

Foulridge came a cropper on their travels to Airedale. After restricting the Keighley side to 124, they came unstuck to lose by 10 runs. G Hurlstone 6-24 and J Lickless 52 being the stars for the Noyna side and Malcolm Quinlan took 6-42 for the winners.

Barrowford had too much experience for visitors Keighley TC. They made 221-8 in their innings and restricted the Keighley side to 113 in reply.
