A driver who died after a police pursuit through Bradford had a baby son he had never seen.

Imtiyaz Ali, of Tagore Court, Laisterdyke, Bradford, was killed after the Toyota Corolla he was driving smashed into a wall and flipped over.

The 20-year-old, believed to have been a disqualified driver, sped through red lights as police lost sight of his vehicle.

Speaking from the family home today Iftikhar Ali revealed how his younger brother had been planning to visit Pakistan to see his wife and two-month-old son.

He said: "He'd never seen his son, apart from in photographs, and was planning to go abroad later this year."

Mr Ali said his brother had been in trouble with the police before but had been trying to 'keep his head down' in the weeks leading up to the crash.

The crash happened at about 2am on Friday, May 12. Officers spotted the Corolla in Bridge Street in the city centre and asked the driver to pull over.

The car sped off along Leeds Road. Police say officers lost sight of it and discovered the smash a short time afterwards.

Mr Ali, who was the only person in the car, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where he later died.

The independent Police Complaints Authority has agreed to supervise the inquiry into the incident.

Mr Ali said: "We want to know everything that happened and how he came to crash the car."

PCA member Tony Williams has appointed Superintendent Joseph Penrose of the force discipline and complaints department to act as investigating officer.

Mr Williams said: "I would ask anybody who saw the vehicles, at any point, to contact the investigation on 0845 6060606
