Ian Taylor came close to back-to-back wins after taking up fell-running.

Two day's after winning the club's Lothersdale race he came close in the Jack Bloor race on Ilkley Moor.

Only Pudsey and Bramley's Graham Patten (41.53) denied him victory.

Taylor, from Keighley, came home second in 42.08 - three seconds clear of Keighley and Craven club rival Will Smith.

The Keighley club had Jeff Emmott (47.02) in 17th and were only edged out of a team win by the packing of the Pudsey trio. Kev Bogg (48.00 for 28th) had a great run to soften the blow of a disappointing Three Peaks.

n Heatwave conditions made it a hard and testing nine miles in the Fairfield Horseshoe from Ambleside. "It was like running in an oven," said Jacqui Foster, who retired on one of the climbs. Just like the Three Peaks, Mark Sandamas was Keighley and Craven's first counter, ahead of Ian Taylor. Liz Tomes had a sound run for 11th lady. Over 600 runners took part.

n Lawrence Hellawell led the fasties home in a string of PBs registered in the first of three series of John Carr 5ks at Esholt.

The Keighley runner scorched round in 15.32 for third spot, closely followed by Chris Loftus (15.40) in fifth, Liam Spencer (15.43) in sixth and James Callaghan (15.54) in eighth.

n Next race in K&C's Summer Grand Prix is the White Lion, Kildwick, on Wednesday, June 7 (6.30 juniors, 7.30 seniors). The club's Full Bront, the five miler around Haworth comes on Thursday, June 15.
