FORMER county star David Cadwallader of Sutton beat local league and Yorkshire secretary Jim Cormican in a thrilling final of the Foster Cup.

Cadwallader took the title with a 21-20 win at the final end after conceding a six-point start. The competition as sponsored by D Gallagher Funeral Service and losing semi-finalists were Keith Ridding (Whins Wood) and Andy Matthews (Denholme).

Cross Roads A won the Hebden Royd Sunday morning knockout event when they crushed Cullingworth at Hebden Royd Park. Cullingworth had a 45 start but lost by 45 and didn't have a winner as the Roadies won the event with room to spare.

Roy Sanderson and Ben Ridding continued their up and down doubles form as they reached the quarter finals of the Bradford Pairs at Horton Park. The Haworth duo then met trouble, going out 6-21 as they attempted to make it to the semi-finals.

The Yorkshire and Henry Taylor Cups continue this Saturday with Cross Roads, Oxenhope, Oakworth and Whins Wood seeing action in the Yorkshire. Sutton meet Zeneca B at Crowghyll Park while Myrtle Park travel to Sutton to meet Outlane.

The County season begins on Sunday when Yorkshire return to the Super Premier Section and meet North Derbyshsire. Their opponents boast some top players and are no pushovers. The locals travel to Derbyshire and the home match is at Pudsey Limited. Others in the same group include Wallasey and Calderdale.

The Central Yorkshire side has been consigned to the annals of history and several players have transferred to Calderdale who will have a strong side out when they meet Yorkshire on June 18. County information is available from Steve Pickles on 01535-643113.

The H Sutcliffe Handicap gets underway in the Hebden area, with the finals of the one day event taking place at Oxenhope in the afternoon.
