THE Wynn Cup got underway in superb sunshine and Bradley had the tough task of travelling to Oakworth.

Their fears seemed to be well founded as they collapsed to 26-6 in the 16th over. However, a battling 51 from A Smithson gave them a total of 96 to defend. Graham Rankin had figures of 4-3 from eight overs and Mick Scarborough 3-12 from seven. Oakworth were rattled as they lost three wickets for seven runs in just two overs. Skipper Scarborough came to their rescue with 58no, which led them to a five-wicket win.

Embsay restricted Haworth West End to 126. Opener A Stoddart scored 39 as Scott Robinson took 6-38 and Jonathan Coward 3-24. The Shires Lane side lost a couple of early wickets before Duncan Bullough, who finished with 41no, and Alan Pickles, 37, steadied the ship to set up a comfortable six wicket win.

Skipton CI were at Sutton and made 185-7, with Ian Burke top scoring on 32 as Andy Elrick took 4-48. The homesters were never really in touch with the run rate and closed on 158-9, P Williams scored a valiant 60no while John Stuttard took 4-55.

Cowling won by 53 runs at Chatburn. Batting first, the South Craveners notched up 230-4, skipper Steve Mitchell making a fine 88no. Chatburn put up a spirited reply to finish on 177-6, of which Richard Shovelton made 72no.

Barnoldswick III were restricted to 127-8 by Long Lee. N Johnson 27 being the highest scorer as John Tetley finished with 5-30 off 13 overs. The Keighley side then strolled to a nine wicket victory, with Paul Wilkinson scoring 70no and Jan Haider 31no.

Jimmy Nelson's were dismissed for 97 at Haworth despite the efforts of Tony Stafford who made 48. Anthony Godden took 6-11 and B Khan 3-27. Adam Balderstone with 53no led the Bronte side to an easy eight wicket win.

Foulridge came a cropper on their travels to Airedale. After restricting the Keighley side to 124, they came unstuck to lose by 10 runs. G Hurlstone 6-24 and J Lickless 52 were the stars of the Noyna side and Malcolm Quinlan took 6-42 for the winners.

Barrowford had too much experience for visitors Keighley Tech. They made 221-8 in their innings and restricted the Keighley side to 113 in reply.

Holders Pendle Forest travelled to Thornton and encountered few problems in progressing into the next round. The home side batted first and posted 150, with Andrew Townsend taking 5-32. In reply the Pendle side cantered to an eight-wicket victory. Ajmal Choudry, promoted from the second team, scoring 86.
