TROJANS RES.......4

UNISON..................0

BURLEY Trojans Reserves showed no signs of a cup hangover when they demolished visitors Unison on Tuesday night.

With the previous weeks fixture against the same opposition having been switched from Harrogate this was the Trojans official "home" game and they recorded another league double, winning by the same scoreline once again.

With The Rec in need of a trim, close passing football was difficult however both sides put together some enterprising moves and it was a surprise that there was only one goal in the first-half.

It came ten minutes before half time following a neat move on the left flank involving Rob Wheeler and Matt Hawnt. When Hawnt delivered a pin-point cross to the far post Iain Gibbons took a touch before driving home from close range.

Unison were restricted to shooting from long range, particularly their left-back who attempted to score from over 30 yards on at least five occasions.

Midfielder Dave McKain added a second on the hour, timing his run to perfection for Gibbons to release him and his cross shot found the bottom corner.

Gibbons claimed number three when he beat the keeper to the ball following good work from Wheeler. Not to be outdone McKain bagged his second and Trojans fourth when Hawnt's through pass split the Unison defence and he ran on to beat the 'keeper with ease.

Keeper Richard Lord kept his third cleansheet inside a week although it must be said that Unison never really tested him and it was debatable whether he actually needed a shower after the match.

Midfielder Andy Vowles, signed too late to feature in the weekend's cup triumph, picked up the Man-of-the-Match award for his tireless performance in the middle of the park, where he was at the heart of many of Trojans best moves.

MARTON....................0

Trojans climbed to fourth place in the table with a comfortable victory over struggling Marton-cum-Grafton on Thursday night. With fixtures coming thick and fast at the end of the season, Trojans were not extended by the visitors and the final scoreline did not fully reflect their superiority.

The home side dominated for long spells and with a little more composure in front of goal could have run riot.

As it was Trojans had to wait until the first minute of the second-half to take the lead. Pete Sumner won the ball in midfield and spotted Gareth Goodison's run.

His defence splitting pass set the young striker free and he slipped the ball past the advancing 'keeper to end his personal goal drought.

Free scoring midfielder Matt Hawnt added the second ten minutes from time with Sumner again the instigator. His measured pass down the line set Dave McKain free and he combined with Iain Gibbons to set up Hawnt who drilled home an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area.

Keeper Richard Lord was never really tested and even had time to indulge in some showboating, juggling the ball past a Marton forward on a rare occasion that the visitors threatened.

Centre-half Chris Lockwood picked up match point for Trojans although at times it seemed as if he had aspirations to be centre-forward with his attacking forays. A return of one goal all season however confirms that he would be well advised to put these ambitions on hold.

BASS SOCIAL..........2

TROJANS RES.........0

It was typical end of season fare at Tadcaster on Saturday as Trojans' recent good run was halted by already promoted Bass Social. The visitors were unsettled by the very physical approach of their opponents whose direct style has clearly paid dividends for them this season.

Trojans had much the better of an open first half bur despite neat approach work were restricted to hopeful attempts on goal from distance. Richard Wood and Matt Hawnt linked up well to cause the home side problems but all too often attacking moves broke down with the final ball.

Bass went ahead ten minutes before the break from the penalty spot. A scramble on the edge of Trojans area saw the ball run loose and, as a bass striker bore down on goal, 'keeper Richard Wood took his legs from under him.

The burly Bass centre-forward comfortable beat Lord with his spot kick.

The home side took charge in the second-half and with better finishing could have put the game beyond Trojans. The visitors did have their moments but, with a big keeper and defence to contend with, seemed intent on knocking in high balls which gave Iain Gibbons and Gareth Goodison little chance.

The second goal also came from the penalty spot when a Bass forward went down rather too easily under a challenge and the local referee gave the decision in favour of the home side.

The defeat rules out any chance of Trojans finishing in third spot however, with a number of sides considering switching leagues and with others potentially dropping out, there may still be an outside chance of second division football next season.

l Trojans complete their league programme tonight (Thursday) with a home fixture against Tockwith Reserves, kick off 7.15pm.
