Yorkshire Juniors defeated Central Midlands on Sunday after some superb bowling despite the heat at Denholme.

Four of the eight-man home team were Worth Valley bowlers and all won their games. Philip Dowgill, of Crosshills won 21-10 and other victories went to: John Robertson (Whinswood) 21-9; Thomas Sexton (Highfield) 21-17; Mark Hughes (Silsden PF) 21-12. The home side secured a 48-point victory.

The away team played at West Bromwich Labour Club, where Stephen Brown of Sutton won. The only Worth Valley bowler was Scott Wilkins who lost 12-21, but the team were 21 points in front with two games to play and his performance ensured an overall victory.

Yorkshire County Parks continued their successful campaign with a good win over Calderdale. The foundation was laid with a good home win at Pudsey Brittannia and the away squad also did well at Mytholmroyd WMC when they held their hosts on a tricky green. There were good wins by Chris Slater, Alan Thornber, Romon Hrabor, David Smith and Les Foster. A victory over Wallasey could earn them a place in the Championship final play-off.

Skiptonmade a brave fight of it in their first Inter-District competition against holders Halifax. They suffered narrow defeats in the home leg at Craven despite having five winners, and shared the spoils at Thrum Hall when Stephen Lofthouse, Colin Wortley and Roy Sanderson excelled.

The holders were however under a cloud following an opening defeat by West Riding and are now out of the event. Skipton now meet the West Riding on July 14.

The Yorkshire Cup continues on Sunday with Cross Roads looking to make further progress against another B team.

The highlight of a quiet weekend on the local greens is the opening of the re-vamped pavilion at Cross Roads when the locals play a Yorkshire Select team as part of the festivities. The game starts at 10.30 and continues into the afternoon with a gala-day atmosphere including events for children in the park.

Cross Roads official Stephen Pickles was top local performer in the Isle of Man Bowls Festival, winning a consolation event by beating Roger Morgan of Wales.

Lund Park A won the Skipton League's Lambert Cup when they beat favourites Sutton A at Steeton in a see-saw game.

Sutton made an excellent start through Stephen Pickles and Trevor Birch but their efforts were cancelled out by Steve Walsh and the man on form, Ian Hardcastle. Eddie Boocock tried to restore the balance, but good winds by Garry Bowdin and Roy Sharpe, together with a stunning victory from Colin Bilney, secured victory.
