From the Telegraph & Argus of July 22, 1975...Keighley MP Bob Cryer has declared he will give away the pay rise recommended for backbenchers by the Government. He said he would divide the sum between aiding research work by the Child Poverty Action Group and his local Labour Party's building fund. Mr Cryer wants MPs' pay pegged at the present £4,500 a year.
From the Telegraph & Argus of July 22, 1950...Toftshaw Moor Colliery, near Bradford, is to close down on August 12, the National Coal Board announced. The 74 workers will be transferred to Birkenshaw, Gomersal and Shawcross collieries. The pit, opened in 1914, is virtually exhausted and is now uneconomical, said its owners, Cleckheaton Colliery Co, Ltd.
