Oakworth and Haworth have set up mouthwatering 'derby' Wynn Cup final clash.

The Worth Valley clubs saw off the challenge of Craven district teams in the semi-finals last weekend, and will now meet in a had-to-head at Oakworth on August 20.

The eagerly awaited clash of Embsay and Oakworth - the top two teams in the league - , went Oakworth's way by three wickets in a tense, low scoring, game.

The Shires Lane side were never comfortable when they batted first and were dismissed for 114 in the 44th over, Jason Waddington top scoring with 21 as Kevin Hird claimed 4-35 in 13 overs. The Cure Hill team got off to a nervy start and were 34-3 after 15 overs. Then crucially Michael Scarborough was dropped off the first ball he received. He went on to make 35. Robert Hopkinson made 27 as the scored reached 101.

Three wickets then fell for the addition of one run to set up the nerve-jangling finish. However no further wickets fell as Oakworth took their place in a 'home' final. Jonathan Coward finished with 4-43.

At Thornton, Skipton CI batted first against Haworth. A sparkling fourth wicket partnership of 113 by Ian Burke 84 and Nick Williamson 71 set up a final score of 214-8. It should have been more, but CI lost their way over the closing overs.

The Bronte side's reply got off to a good start of 95 by Damian Marsden 58 and Damian Rowell. As in the other tie a crucial dropped catch was to prove costly. Rowell was dropped on 49 and went on to finish with an excellent 87 not out which included eight fours and four massive sixes.

Together with his brother Jamie, 37 not out, they put together a match winning partnership of 74 for the 5th wicket, victory coming with 14 balls to spare.

Cowling Cup 3rd Round

At last the weather relented to allow the completion of the third round with the two outstanding ties.

It proved to be a good day for Haworth as they joined their 1st XI on the winner's podium. They batted first against Carleton and made 176-7. Alex Austerbury 69 was top scorer with extras the next highest contributor, with a staggering 43. Neville Allen took 4-40. He followed this with 62no as the villagers replied with 130-6.

At Oakworth, Barrowford batted first and made 171-8, Squire Lavin 64 and David Wilkinson 32 putting on 101 for the first wicket.

The Cure Hill side never got to grips with their task and were all out for 102 in the 38th over, David Brunskill making 33 as Stuart Hargreaves finished with 6-41 off 18.1 overs and Nick Jones 3-45. John Duffy took 5-34 in 10 overs.
