Four times world outdoor trials champion Dougie Lampkin went down to arch rival Marc Colomer on Saturday night in Malaga in front of 5,500 screaming Spanish Colomer supporters, but only by a single penalty point.
"I want to win and like winning, I rode well but made some mistakes. On this occasion I have to accept Marc rode better and deserved to win," Dougie said.
Lampkin lost on the tricky high jump. "I tried jumping the double pipe and nearly ended up hurting myself, I was not risking that move again. Marc pulled it off, but probably wished he hadn't gone for it."
On Sunday Dougie swaps roles and heads for the European Championship in France where he dons overalls to act as minder and mechanic to James Lampkin and Radson Montesa team mate Sam Connor.
