THE new soccer season kicks off next week - with the West Riding amateur League getting the season under way.

Champions Phoenix will be flying the flag for their home town after changing the club's name to Keighley Phoenix and they kick off their campaign with a mouthwatering match against Brighouse Town at Marley on Wednesday evening (ko 6.30).

In Divison One Keighley Shamrocks are at home to halifax Irish while Silsden travel to Farnley. Steeton are away to Salts in Division Two.

n Keighley Phoenix have launched their own website in time for the new season. The site will link with the match day programme to provide news, match results and reports as well as information about the players.

It is hoped that the website will encourage local people to take a greater interest in the club.

One of the first 'hits' on the site was from Vorden, an amateur league club in Holland showing the worldwide power of the web.

As well as visitors from around the world it is hoped that lots of web users around Keighley will log on to www.kly-phoenix.co.uk to get up to date information about the club.

Club Chairman Roy Mason said: " The launch of our own web site is another exciting time for the club. After the success we have had with the programme over the past two seasons this is another stage in the clubs development.

"With the introduction of the programme we found that people from all over the country were interested in what we are doing. We even had exiled people from Keighley now living in Australia wanting to know what was going on at Phoenix. At a time when Keighley football is going through a bit of a bad time we feel that we are not only promoting our own club but also the town.

"Hopefully some local business will also take an interest and get involved with sponsorship on a greater scale, as there is scope to incorporate them on the site. We are determined to put Keighley football on the map, a town the size of Keighley deserves it and judging by the number of people who have already visited the web site interest is definitely there."
