The owner of a Bradford golf course is calling for extra police patrols to tackle what he claims is a rising tide of vandalism and prostitution in the area.

Stephen Storke says secluded roads surrounding his Shay Grange Golf Club have become a race track and red light area.

And the former Royal Marine says the mini crimewave is hitting his business and costing him hundreds of pounds a month in repairs.

He said: "There's not a weekend goes by without someone ramming into one of the perimeter walls and leaving glass all over the road.

"We get cars abandoned and burned outside the entrance to the golf club and there's a massive problem with prostitution on Long Lane."

Mr Storke says an important part of his business involves opening up facilities to youngsters at local schools.

He said: "The kids walk down Long Lane to get to the course. They have to walk past prostitutes in cars, broken glass and litter. They shouldn't have to see that."

Ironically, Mr Storke, 46, was fined last month after being taken to court by Bradford Council for fly-tipping on his own land.

He said: "That was one person making a genuine mistake. I have to put up with litter and all sorts on Long Lane and can't take anyone to court for it."

The latest incident happened last week when a car knocked down a section of stone wall belonging to Mr Storke on Long Lane.

Police are investigating that incident and today Chief Inspector Des Broster, of Toller Lane CID, said officers would also be looking into Mr Storke's claims that prostitutes take clients to the area.

Ch Insp Broster said: "I am aware that courting couples go there throughout the day.

"A lot of young Asian couples also use the road as a meeting place.

"I am not aware of any problem with prostitution, but it is something we will look at."
