When four-year-old Audrey laid eyes on little Peter at Thornbury Infant School in 1933 she had little idea that he would grow into the man with whom she would celebrate her golden wedding.

But that is exactly what happened.

And in a bumper celebration this Saturday, they will be joined by their daughter, Janine, 35, who will make her marriage vows - to the man she was divorced from ten years ago.

Janine and Bryan Dixon, a staff nurse at St James's Hospital in Leeds, married in 1988 when they were 22 and 24.

Janine, a playgroup leader in Great Horton, said: "I think we were too young when we first got married.

"We have a daughter, Lauren, and we split up soon after she was born.

"But then about four years ago we started seeing each other on and off before officially going out.

"We took it really slowly and then, after a holiday, decided that we were going to take the plunge again."

The couple originally married on September 10.

"We had wanted to get married on the same day as mum and dad's anniversary, but that wasn't possible.

"But this time we are going to be remarried on exactly the same day as their golden wedding which will make it a really special occasion."

Audrey and Peter Emmett, who now live in Low Moor, were in the same class for most of their school life.

Then they went to separate schools, only to meet at the age of 16 at a dance hall in Eccleshill.

"It was love at first sight when we saw each other again," said Audrey, now 71.

"I was dressed in my finest clothes and when I saw Peter again it just clicked," she said.

After that fateful meeting the pair were inseparable.

"We just knew that we were going to be together and we didn't go out with anyone else after that," said Audrey.

Peter, a retired police officer who won an award for bravery in 1968, wanted to marry Audrey when they were 18.

"I did ask Audrey's mum for her hand in marriage but she said we were too young," said Peter.

Instead, Audrey wore her engagement ring in secret until they eventually married in 1950 at St Margaret's Church, Thornbury, when they were 21.

"It's marvellous that we are going to celebrate our big days together," said Audrey, who has twin daughters, Lea and Lynne, aged 46, and four granddaughters.

Audrey's brother Eric is flying in from Canada to attend the get-together planned at The Lakean Ballroom, Shipley.

"Lauren is glad to have her dad back of course, but I think she's looking forward to being a bridesmaid even more," said Janine.
