Chris Hutchings has urged his Bradford City players: Start believing in yourselves.

The Bantams are in London for last-minute preparations before their crunch Premiership match at Charlton tomorrow.

And manager Hutchings wants to see more confidence in the ranks as they look to take their first points off a promoted side following the losses to Man chester City and Ipswich.

The Worthington Cup fightback at Newcastle has given City some momentum and Hutchings said: "We are a good side and that showed we can do it.

"Sometimes you've got to have a lot more belief that you can go out there and do the job. We've got to take a lot of comfort from the second half on Wednesday. Now we have to play in that manner from the first minute."

Goalkeeper Matt Clarke joined his team-mates for a light jogging session yesterday before they flew to Heathrow but is still troubled by the groin injury that has forced him out.

And winger Peter Beagrie has been struck down by flu and confined to bed to avoid passing on the germs.

Hutchings said: "Matt is still feeling a bit of pain so we'll have to monitor his progress over the next day. He wasn't really in with a chance of playing at Newcastle and we can't tell at this stage if he will be all right.

"Peter's been really rough and stayed in bed during the Newcastle game."

Clarke, who is 27 today, has not missed a Premiership game this season. If he isn't fit, Aidan Davison will again step in despite leaking four goals against Newcastle.

Teenage goalkeeper Jon Worsnop will cover on the bench because Gary Walsh is injured with a torn thigh.

City need to tighten up at the back if they are to get anything from The Valley and Hutchings admitted: "We kept switching off at Newcastle."

But City looked much sharper up front where Ashley Ward's first goals for the club have given the boss a selection dilemma.

Hutchings added: "We'll have to wait and see who we start with, but I was delighted for Ashley to get off the mark. Strikers thrive on goals and it will give him a lot of confidence.

"Confidence is all about scoring goals and winning games. Now we have shown we can play like that I want to see us take that attitude into the Charlton game."
