A teenage mum was today mourning the brother she loved so much she named her Christmas Day baby after him.

Adele Foster is "devastated" by the death of brother Darren, who died in his mother's arms aged just 18.

Darren, who suffered from muscular dystrophy, had been hit by a chest infection he couldn't fight off.

Darren's nephew - named after him - was born last Christmas Day to 14-year-old mum Adele and her boyfriend Philip Fry.

Today tributes were flooding into the family home in Gondal Court, Little Horton, where Darren lived with mum Janet Foster, sister Adele and her 11-month-old baby.

Cradling her child - known as 'Baby D' - Adele said: "It doesn't make sense. The whole house is in shock. He had only just turned 18. He was the kindest, most loving person and we're going to miss him so much."

Mrs Foster, 45, said she was "devastated" at the loss of her eldest son. Fighting back tears, the mother-of-three said: "He was the kindest, most loving boy. He was so good with his two sisters, Adele and seven-year-old Rachel.

"And he was really pleased when Adele decided to name her baby Darren. He was the best uncle a baby could have."

Darren was wheelchair-bound from the age of ten, and loved looking after 'Baby D'.

Mrs Foster said: "He loved playing with Baby D and loved to give Rachel rides on his wheelchair."

Darren was admitted to Martin House Hospice, Wetherby, last Tuesday and died on Thursday night.

Mrs Foster said: "I had been holding him all day. The doctors had told us he might not pull through. He'd been quite poorly this year and I had a feeling he wouldn't make it All I can think is that he went peacefully, with his family around him. The day before Adele took Baby D in and the nurses tucked him in bed with Darren. They were both really happy to see each other."

Now the family face a bleak Christmas without Darren, especially as his namesake will be celebrating his first birthday.

The funeral is yet to be arranged but Mrs Foster has decided to have a service at Thornton Church where Darren and his sisters attended Sunday school.
