A car crash in Manningham claimed the lives of two Bradford men last night.
The incident happened shortly after 11.15pm on Queens Road, between the traffic lights and the junction with Valley Road.
Police say the Ford Orion, travelling along Queens Road, hit a tree and then collided with a parked black Rover A20 saloon car.
Fire crews from Idle and Bradford were joined by paramedics as they struggled to free two of the three occupants in the Orion from the wreckage.
A third man, believed to be the back seat passenger in the Orion, managed to clamber out of the vehicle to the kerbside.
One firefighter said the road resembled a "battlefield", with wheels and other debris from both cars scattered everywhere.
A spokesman for Bradford fire station said: "There was debris everywhere. We used hydraulic cutting gear to cut two men free from the Orion.
"When we arrived another man was sat on the roadside receiving treatment from paramedics."
The 34-year-old driver and 25-year-old front seat passenger, both from Bradford, were taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary and pronounced dead on arrival.
The back seat passenger in the Orion was also taken to the BRI but his injuries are not believed to be serious.
One resident on Queens Road, who heard the crash, said today: "I was sitting in the house and there was this massive crash.
"It was a really loud bang. I went outside to the car and one of the lads in the car was saying 'get us out please' and I kept telling him that I could not.
"It took a long time when the police arrived to get them out. It was awful. We saw the bodies as they were being taken from the cars.
"It's a real mess. One of the cars was parked, but it was moved up the road by the crash. The other car must have been coming at some speed."
The road was closed between 11.25pm and 4am today.
Anyone who witnessed the accident, or who saw either vehicle immediately beforehand, is asked to contact Bradford Police's road traffic department on (01274) 376147.
