Bradford council has had a re-think on a dangerously positioned sign on Bolton Road in Silsden.
The 30mph warning sign has been removed after councillors and police officers roundly condemned it as being more dangerous than no sign at all.
The sign, on the A6034 between Addingham and Silsden, was installed to form a gateway to Silsden to warn drivers to slow down. The new layout of the jutting out kerbstones meant many motorists, unaware of the new sign, had to swerve to avoid hitting it.
Craven Ward councillor David Harrison said: "It's extremely dangerous with it sticking out in the road."
Inspector Paul Spencer of Keighley police said: "The first time I drove over there I had to zip out. Personally I don't like it."
A council spokesman confirmed that the sign and kerbstone build-out have been removed.
He says: "A new sign with a single pole will be erected against the wall in the near future so as not to cause an obstruction."
