SCHOOLBOY table tennis ace Stephen Denny has hit top form just at the right time.
The 14-year-old from Eldwick, won the Liverpool Junior Tournament just before jetting out to Portugal for his first international.
He got his call-up for England on his 14th birthday and is currently in Portugal for their junior open championships.
He is a member of Bradford's excellence squad and is sponsored by Tees Sport. His footwork and powerful forehand top-spins helped him take apart opponents ranked well above him in the Liverpool competition.
He beat England's No 4 Adam Pleakley, from Lancashire, in the semis and accounted for No 3 Chris Gregory, from Shropshire, in the final, both in straight sets.
For good measure he and partner Shaun Marple from Cheshire, beat Gregory and Pleakley in the doubles final.
n Open community coaching sessions for any age take place at Oakbank on Wednesdays, from 7-8pm.
