BORED youngsters in Pool-in-Wharfedale who are campaigning for a skateboard park to be introduced in the village are to meet in January to discuss ambitious proposals.

The youngsters will meet with Pool Community Development Group to give their views on what will make a good skateboard park.

As previously reported, youngsters have complained that there is nothing for them to do in the village during the summer months - and at a public meeting called by community group Pool 2020 earlier this year, they said that a skateboard park would be ideal.

The Community Development Group, which is made up of villagers and sports club representatives, is looking at ways of spending the £80,000 lodged in Leeds City Council's bank account from housing developers Redrow. The developers have had to pay the money towards leisure provision in the village as a result of getting planning permission for houses on Swallow Drive.

Pool Parish Council has already agreed in principle to site the skate park near the existing playground - and it is thought that the proposal will receive sufficient support to secure a chunk of the £80,000 windfall.

No date has been drawn up for the meeting yet, but parents are also being urged to attend.

Projects are being prepared for presentation at the next public meeting of the Pool Community Development Group, which will see villagers decide which community projects they would like implementing in Pool.

Group members are currently considering a riverside footpath, a skateboard park, tennis court extensions, the Memorial gardens and a children's playground near to the school.

It is believed the existing playground could be moved to the more central location.

Any villagers with a scheme which has substantial support should table their proposals to the next Community Development meeting on January 25.
