A Bradford employment law expert is warning firms of the dangers of overlooking parental leave rules.
New regulations giving all working parents the right to take 'reasonable' time off to care for a sick child or dependent have now been in place for over a year.
But Elizabeth Henry, of Bradford-based Last Cawthra Feather Solicitors, thinks most employers are still unaware of the law.
She said: "The new right applies whether the employee is full time, part time, permanent or temporary, but it does not include the right to be paid.
"If employers refuse to allow an employee time off, the employee can complain to a tribunal that they have been treated unfairly."
