REVISED plans for 44 houses at Swallow Drive in Pool-in-Wharfedale were deferred for one month to allow consultation with the parish council.

The plans form the second part of Redrow Homes' development on the site and already has outline planning approval, but councillors voiced concerns about the design and layout of the houses, as well as the way work had been carried out in the first phase.

Coun Phil Coyne (Lab, Otley & Wharfedale) said: "It is important to get the details right. Some of the blocks in the first phase are over-dominant and unsuitable."

The revised plans were only submitted last week.

A proposed extension and garage at Tower Drive was also approved despite opposition from villagers and a change of use and extension of Elm Nook Residential Home to offices also got the go-ahead.

Consort Homes' bid to build eight houses off Arthington Lane was deferred after the developer

submitted late revisions to the scheme.

l DESPITE 41 letters of objection from residents, an extension of permission to build a three bedroom detached house in Ridge Close, Guiseley was granted.

Complaints by residents included the loss of long

distance views, loss of light to adjacent gardens and over-intensive development, but planners refuted the claims.

l A RAWDON school could soon have better sports facilities after an outline plan to build a detached sports hall and classroom block were approved for Benton Park School.

The hall will be based next to the school entrance off Harrogate Road, with the new classrooms replacing the old portacabins.

l COUNCILLORS will visit the site of the old Corn Mill in Low Lane, Horsforth to look at plans for offices.

Residents and councillors were happy with the development, but expressed grave concern over road safety and traffic congestion. The plan will be discussed again next month.

l A CHANGE of use of the former Liberal Club in Otley to four dwellings has moved a step closer to reality.

Coun Phil Coyne (Lab, Otley & Wharfedale) said: "I welcome this application. I did ask at the last meeting for greater detail on the interior, which has not been

supplied."

He asked that the plan be deferred and delegated for approval to the Director of Planning and Environment, subject to ward member consultation.
