Otley Tongans...104 WP Bramhope 'A'...0

TONGANS rose to the occasion again on the first team pitch and those who forsook the Italy versus France game in the clubhouse were amply rewarded with a superb display of 15-man rugby which bordered on the miraculous at times in the tricky conditions.

Otley had the edge in the forward battle and maintaining their discipline throughout their classy backs had a field day, scoring 13 of the 16 tries, many from long distance.

The wingers produced clinical finishing with Tim Westland-Bryant scoring five and Craig Jackson three. Adrian Keeler and Richard Simpson scored a brace of tries.

Matty Birch, Scott Pool, Alistair Campbell and Marcus Dracup also scored the latter, having a satisfactory senior debut.

Colt's half-backs James Henry and Matty Birch were an effective link between backs and forwards and the former added 12 conversions. To their credit Park stuck to their task to the end and the game was played in good spirit throughout.

IN a closely fought first-half Park had a narrow 7-5 lead.

Viscounts' try came from a Mark Duxbury drive from close in.

Jamie Chappell gave Viscounts the lead with a penalty midway through the second-half before Chris Chilton clinched the win when he intercepted deep in his own half and sent the full-back the wrong way to go over under the posts, Jamie Chappell tacking on the conversion to stretch Viscounts unbeaten run to seven games.

COLD snowy conditions couldn't put a damper on Otley's fine run of form.

Eddie Fraser took advantage of a slip by the opposition to race over for the first try within the first two minutes, Kirk Arundale converting from the touch line.

Captain Tim Mobbs charged over for a try and Benn Voce forced his way over the line after a 50 yard run by Alan Mapplebeck.

Alastair Pickles completed the scoring in the first half with Arundale converting two more.

Handling of the ball was remarkable by both sides bearing in mind the almost blizzard like conditions and visibility for spectators was very poor.

In the second-half Fraser and Mobbs got a further try apiece and Alex Fox got his hat trick, Arundale kicking three conversions.

The whole Otley squad was awarded man-of-the-match awards and the many spectators deserve a mention too.
