A RESIDENTS' campaign to get a pharmacy at a new health centre in Horsforth reached a successful conclusion yesterday.
Lloyds Pharmacy in Town Street has relocated to Broadgate Lane Health Centre following a concerted campaign led by town councillors Mick Grubb and Beryl Beer.
They claimed that older residents attending the centre faced a steep uphill climb to reach their nearest chemists and had said that their trek was made almost impossible by bad weather in winter.
And yesterday the new pharmacy was officially opened, marking the end of a well-fought campaign dating back to the middle of last year.
Councillor Grubb said: "We are very pleased that a pharmacy will be based in the centre. I have been down to see it already and it looks absolutely super.
"It is providing an excellent service for residents living in that part of Horsforth and I would urge people to use it as much as they can. The tenacity of Horsforth residents appears to have paid off."
It was officially opened yesterday by local GP Dr Young and coincided with National No Smoking Day, with staff carrying out Smokerlyzer testing for customers and offering advice on how to quit smoking.
The new Lloyds Pharmacy has been completely redesigned, with blood glucose and blood pressure monitors and diagnostic equipment installed. There is also a new consultation room where customers can receive confidential advice from the pharmacist.
