RESIDENTS in Pool-in-Wharfedale will be able to see the schemes vying for a slice of the £80,000 allocated to the village for the first time when an exhibition opens next week.

The money has been given as a result of Redrow Homes' development at Swallow Drive and will be used to enhance open space provision in the community, with five separate schemes in the village hoping to get a slice or all of the money.

Information on the various projects will be on display to villagers in the entrance hall at Pool C of E Primary School from Monday (March 19) until the following Friday (9am-3.45pm).

The Parish Council has called a parish meeting for residents to vote for their favourite scheme or combination of schemes at the village hall on Friday March 23 (7.30pm).

Pool Community Development Group facilitator and parish councillor Ailsa Bearpark said: "This is a great chance for the community to get the things it wants and set a course for further improvements in the future.

"The money is ready and waiting to be used, so let's make the most of it."

The schemes hoping to get funding include:

l A drainage scheme by Pool Football Club to relieve the 'permanent bog' on the sports and recreation land, costing £4,438.

l An early years playground with adventure play area at Pool CE School, costing £29,186.

l A skateboard park with ramps next to the existing village play area, with two options costing £20,000 and £25,000.

l A sports development next to the village hall, which would include an all-weather surface suitable for tennis, soccer, mat bowls, netball, basketball, hockey and mini-cricket, costing £49,200 and floodlighting at £28,316. Project management costs are between £819 and £8,735.

l Redesign and improve the Memorial Gardens, making them more attractive and practical for more people to use. Cost £15,000.

l Project Footpath would provide good, safe access across the village and to the river landscape with more than 1,000 metres of footpath linking major landmarks in the village.

There are three options, ranging over £10,000, £22,000 and £28,000.
