SHERBURN WR.....1 TRINITY ... 2

Even allowing for difficult conditions in the middle of the park, Baildon Trinity made heavy weather of beating the Division One's bottom club in this West Yorkshire League game. In the first-half, Baildon comfortably contained their opponents' long ball tactics, but despite playing neat football at times, they lacked penetration in the final third. Half-time was reached goalless and it took a spectacular strike from Baildon midfielder Oliver Atkinson to break the deadlock.

However, far from capitalising on this breakthrough, Baildon began to give the ball away far too often. The back four failed to build up play through midfield and White Rose were able to create one or two chances.

After going close when the referee inexplicably ruled that a lunge by a Baildon player constituted a back pass, White Rose equalised. Baildon began to press forward and eventually got the winner when Chris Hawker headed in a Danny Jowett corner. Atkinson got the Man-of-the-Match award.

l On Saturday Baildon entertain local rival Salts in the semi-final of the Wharfedale Cup (kick-off 2pm), and this should prove a cracking affair.

TRINITY RES..4 BOSTON SPA RES..2

Pressed into goal this season, Baildon Reserves 42-year-old play-manager Steve Maslen looks like making club history.

Having faced three penalty kicks and saved them all, Maslen made it four out of four on Saturday to help his side on the way to three points. In difficult conditions, Baildon moved the ball out to the flanks and moved into a two-goal lead.

The first came from striker Matthew Nunn before midfielder Ian Firth doubled the lead. Boston pulled a goal back before half-time.

In the second-half, John North scored a spectacular 25 yard goal direct from a free-kick. Then came the penalty to Boston, which saw Maslen dive to his left and keep out the kick.

Enter North again with a wonderful goal. He skipped past three players and into the 18-yard box before stroking the ball past the visiting 'keeper.

It was not until two minutes before the end that Boston got their second goal. North and Firth dominated matters in midfield, making sure there was plenty of ball on the wings, where the ground was firmer, and this undoubtedly paid off.

Baildon can be pleased with this win, achieved with a number of youngsters in the side.

BAILDON...3 Undercliffe CC..1

With the visitors turning up with only ten men this turned out to be something of a stroll for Baildon Trinity's Sunday side. The first-half was fairly one-sided and Baildon rammed in three goals. Two from Oliver Atkinson and Matthew Nunn headed in the other.

Baildon never lost control of things, but Undercliffe occasionally threatened in the second-half. After Steve Barnett brought down an attacker, Baildon's goalkeeper/manager, Danny Milner, dived to his right to tip the penalty kick round the post. However, just before the end Undercliffe were rewarded with a consolation goal.

TRINITY U-17s..2 CHURWELL ...7

Churwell settled down straight from the kick-off and dominated this match with an excellent display. They proved pacey and strong and on the day were far too much for the home side. Churwell were 5-0 up at half-time and the game was over.

In the second-half, things were a little more even and Baildon managed to score twice through Rob McDonald and a header by Nick Wadsworth from a corner.

TRINITY U-15s....2 Silsden.......4

This was a disappointing result for Baildon after they had taken the lead in the second minute. Adam Edwards, who had an outstanding match, sent in a powerful cross-cum-shot and it powered its way into the top corner.

However, the visitors gradually came back into the game and failure to get goalside of attackers led to an equaliser. Silsden scored twice more in the first-half thanks to slack marking and poor tackling.

A couple of substitutions and tactical changes enabled Baildon to match their opponents in the second-half but Silsden made it 4-1. It was only in the last 15 minutes that Baildon played with any authority and after Chris Reardon and Simon Malyon had gone close, Edwards scored his second.

Edwards got the Man-of-the-Match point and the strong tackling Craig Renton and second-half work of Malyon also caught the eye.
