Yarnbury Nomads.........12

Wetherby Vets...............12

Yarnbury went to Wetherby with only 14 men including seven colts. The Nomads dominated the match using a rucking game and kept possession for many cases.

The scrums were even but the swirling wind made the line-out poor. After seven minutes Yarnbury moved into the Wetherby half through fine forward play by Ben Ormondroyd, John Chapman and Ben Thompson, for Ormondroyd to score, fly-half Sam Skaige converted from the touch line.

Centre Paul Osbourne and Emer Rees were solid in defence and full-back Tristan was always dangerous when counter-attacking. The Nomads, having most of the ball, were unlucky when Wetherby Vets scored on the stroke of half-time.

Seconds after Yarnbury, playing up hill, found the Vets kicking them back, but Yarnbury's 14 galvanised as one, tackled superbly. Rob Taylor and Richard Lister cleaned up any loose ball for Yarnbury's half-backs Blackburn and Skaige, who came close to scoring.

Wetherby scored a good try and converted but the Nomads kept their game together and when skipper Smith cleaned up on the right, the ball was quickly moved up field through Thompson and Chapman for Skaige to put winger Adam Stevenson in under the posts. Skaige, placing the ball a bit too close, had his kick charged down by the wily Vets.

Yarnbury went one better than their efforts last season and reached the final of the Yorkshire Under-16 Plate with an emphatic win over a game but ultimately outgunned Redcar outfit.

Following two postponements this match finally took place in perfect conditions and for a change, Yarnbury were the bigger side and took the game to their opponents from the kick-off. Skipper Joe Bailey led from the front. Unfortunately, in the early skirmishes the visiting players tended to become isolated and it wasn't until the support play was sorted out that any patterns emerge. Booth, Buckle and Jones were conspicuous until finally the ball was moved right for Malone to cross for a try which Padden converted.

With their tails up, Yarnbury continued to attack from depth but Redcar defended stoutly and kicked well for position. A swift attack by the home backs led to a try wide out and a superb conversion levelled the scores at 7-7. Yarnbury knew they were in for a game but continued to spread the ball at every opportunity, converting a penalty on the next occasion they were in the '22'. The breathing space was increased as first Whitfield and then Davies fought their way over for well-deserved tries following good work by Walker and Hood. Padden managed one conversion to leave a half-time score of Redcar 7, Yarnbury 22.

The second-half saw Redcar attempting to come back into the game but they had little to offer against solid defence from Hare and Lydon. The giant Calvert, back from a serious wrist injury, came on to replace Fox and soon began to take line-out ball. Some scrappy play from Redcar gifted a try to Corcoran. Unfortunately Padden missed the extras.

Hare was replaced by Montehini, Pinn came on for Buckle but the onslaught was relentless as Yarnbury moved in for the kill. Booth showed great hands and pace for a second row as he consistently tore holes in the Redcar defence. Whitfield won a race for the corner and Bailey crashed over with the last move of the match. in Yarnbury meet Beverley in the final on April 29.
